Socket 939 died last year

Last vanilla DDR CPUs in stock
Tuesday, 2 January 2007, 11:10
A FRIEND wanted to buy a 939 CPU as they have gotten dirty cheap. He had some trouble. We wrote that Socket 939 flavour chips were set to die but we still expected to see some quantities in 2007.

We went to buy a 4000+ for €90 but the chap in the store said that they had sold out and that was the last shipment that he will ever have. I am talking about peluga.at, one of the big computer stores in Vienna.

Furthermore the chap advised me to buy a 3700+ tray edition as this is one of the few remaining 939 that he had. He assured me that he won't be getting socket 939 CPUs any more and that this is the only remaining option.

I bought a new CPU for our friend and learned that AM2 is the only way to go as even the 754 won't last long. AM2 is AMD's most dominant socket for 2007 and it will be updated with AM2+ around the middle of the year. The DDR 1 market is finally starting to disappear and DDR 2 is the way to go. ยต
