ATI confirms Radeon 9500 launch

Expected October-ish

ATI HAS CONFIRMED it will launch its lower-price version of the new R300 chip around October time. Labelled the Radeon 9500, the chip is likely to be clocked slower than the top-end 9700 which was unveiled to a select bunch of goggle-eyed hacks earlier this month.

DigiTimes says ATI local company chairman and CEO Ho Kwok-yuen told them the Radeon 9500, was scheduled for launch "around the middle of the third quarter."

The Fudzilla learned of the new offering a while back and you can find his musings at the links below.

The lower-cost 9500 will be positioned between ATI's newly-announced RV250 core-based Radeon 9000 and Radeon 9000 PRO and the R300-based Radeon 9700. It'll go up against Nvidia's GeForce4 Ti 4200 chip, leaving the 9700 as the high-end king of the hill, until, as Fudo says, Nvidia brings out its next generation NV30-based chips. µ
