INQUIRER-Intel meeting rumbled by earthquake

Shaken but not stirred
Wed Feb 11 2004, 14:06
JUST AS your faithful INQUIRER hack sat down to quiz the boss of Intel Israel on all things mobile, Centrino, Dothan and more, the building shook as the whole of the country was rocked by an earthquake.

The quake, measuring 5 on the Richter Scale was centred just north of the Dead Sea, to the east of the country.

Buildings shook throughout Israel and the surrounding countries and the Intel facility in Haifa on the northern mediterranean coast rumbled for a number of seconds. One building under construction in the nearby city of Acre collapsed.

The quake was the biggest to strike the region for a number of years. There were no reports of casualties.

The Haifa meeting was able to resume after a few shaky seconds, with David Perlmutter, general manager of Intel Israel, and newly-promoted corporate vice president at the chipmaker, reporting he hadn't felt a thing. µ
