Another week, another wibble

Tales from the forum
Thursday, 17 October 2002, 12:16
JUST TO PROVE that the Summariser's crown is passed on by alcohol, I foolishly agreed to write this week's missive after a heavy weekend engaged in OOFG activities. Now I've finally sobered up, I've worked out how to submit it!

In an unprecedented move, this week has seen many of the regular cave dwellers leaving their comfy retreats and actually engaging in some social intercourse. A visit to the UK by D'Inq spawned two mini-OOFGs, one in Scotland and another in London Village in his honour. Not wishing to be outdone, the West-Midlands OOFG shower proved (against popular opinion) that they are capable of organising a piss-up in a brewery, by taking their considerable drinking talents to a local brewery open day and beer festival. As usual the photos of the carnage can be found at OOFG.com here

Timewasters: SKAFFMAN, FLASHMAN, MAGRIGGS, TCB, THERMIONIC, TIGGER, KILLER_AP, BASIL, TAMEALIEN, SPINOLA, REDBARON, BO_NANZA, WELSHBLOKE, WHITEKNAVE, LEAHCIM, FRNHT451, PROMETHEA, URIGAGARIN, HARANGUER, DSMITHINQ - the usual suspects. Hats off to FRNHT for still making the list despite being off photographing dragons in foreign climes!

FNGs: AARHUS (Not quite in the middle of my street), BREHMEL (Are you really new?), STENCH (The smell of her mind, nothing else…), MURRAYPA (Fluffy has a friend!), SAMLIND (One hit wonder? Prove me wrong.)

A few techy discussions this week: some graphics card stuff, ASP, PHP, heatsinks and worryingly some assembly language and registers. Are you asleep yet? Fortunately most of these degenerated into wibble or puns before any permanent damage was done.

Spamwatch: A couple of interesting spams shared with the group this week; one containing the bitter irony of a confidentiality disclaimer (this email is private and confidential - except to the 50 million addresses it was sent to...); the other offering to sell cheap Chinese items ranging from "Lady Garments", to a "Scraping Machine", to "Welhead equipment & X-mas tree blowout preventers". Needless to say we all made our shopping lists…

Finally, requests for help from a couple of the ladies in the group: MRSTCB is after inspiration for Christmas presents for the male members of her family (already!) and STENCH would like suggestions for things to laminate with her new laminating machine. Any suggestions, post them in Hermit's Cave.

This summary was brought to you by Teme Valley Brewery's Northdown Hop Nouveau beer, a recently used Solaris recovery CD and the phrase "Email Support".

Hermit's quotable quotes:
I was gonna ride a bike because of the global warming bit but I decided not to. I'd pedal off, get all hot and sweaty, thus causing more global warming plus stinking the place up even more. I'm doing my bit for the world by not driving a Sherman Tank to the mail box or the grocery store. What more can it ask? ยต
