Acer, Packard-Bell rumours ring bells in Asia

European presence required
Tuesday, 24 July 2007, 10:18
TAIWANESE GIANT Acer continues to be tipped to buy Euro PC maker Packard Bell, as first reported here.

The Taipei Times said Acer's shares jumped on the Taiex bourse after local newspapers spurred on the rumours.

But it did quote a local Acer PR who appeared to confirm such a move was on the cards.

Acer needs to beef up its presence in Europe, and said earlier this year it wanted to make some acquisitions. The Acer PR seems to be saying yeah, but don't rush us. µ
