TIN MAKER Sun has held a press conference in the virtual Second Life world, in something which could be the shape of things to come.

The first one has been held, to launch what Sun calls the "Sun Pavilion", which is a big virtual Java training tent in Second Life.

About 50 hacks logged in to hear Sun's chief researcher John Gage, Philip Rosedale, Second Life boss and Sun's Chief Gaming Officer Chris Melissinos discuss Sun's plans and the virtual community in general.

We didn't go, there was no booze, or free teeshirts or biros to steal. Besides we were not invited. Apparently they still want to keep the riff-raff out.

According to Internet News, there was a bit of glitch when Rosedale's avatar showed up naked, which is something, fortunately, unseen in regular press conferences.

Apparently that was too many people were online and there was a delay in seeing clothes. Gage said working in Second Life would enable Sun to reach more developers. Currently its largest conference attracts 22,000 people and a larger number which can't show up. He said that working in Second Life would enable Sun to reach more developers.
