IQE buoyed by Triquint deal

Products used for military comms
Tuesday, 18 March 2008, 10:34

WALES' VERY own IQE is smiling thanks to a new deal struck with US based Triquint Semiconductor. TriQuint will use IQE's GaN (Gallium Arsenide)-based HEMT (high electron mobility transistor) wafers.

The wafers will be manufactured at IQE's New Jersey plant and will help the company develop power amplifiers for new military and commercial communications products.

IQE points out, however, that Gallium Arsenide wafers are particularly useful for smartphones and wireless PDAs . Which is probably why Motorola bought a stake in IQE a few years back.

Indeed, if you've got a Crackberry there probably a few of IQE's wafers inside. Which has led to IQE's CEO, Drew Nelson predicting that demand for its products can only increase in 2008. ยต
