Coders beaver away to run Windows apps on Intel Macs

Pass the port

WINDOWS-TO-LINUX software developer, CodeWeavers, Inc says it is busy building software to allow the easy port of Windows applications to upcoming Intel-powered Apples.

The company currently produces 'CrossOver' and 'CrossOver Office' productivity tools which enable Windows applications to run natively on popular flavours of Linux.

It says the tools have was restricted to Windows-to-Linux application porting because they require Intel CPUs for optimal operation. Apple desktops, if you hadn't noticed, have been running IBM PowerPC chipsets.

CEO Jeremy White said Apple's decision to shift to Intel chips was "good news for many Windows developers who, for reasons of time and/or expense, have never created Mac versions of their key applications.

"CodeWeavers can give these developers a low-cost and near-instant path to market through the use of CrossOver technology," he claimed. µ
