Asus released borked EeePC code

EEE gods we made a cock up
Thu Nov 29 2007, 09:38

ASUS has admitted that there were things wrong with the release of the Open Sauce code for its EeePC.

We reported how software developer Cliff Biffle found that the source code archive made available by Asus for the Eee PC was not up to scratch.

The 1.8GB archive made available online by Asus did not include changes made by the company to the asus_acpi kernel module and a few other things that are important to Linux developers.

This is against the GPL and could have landed Asus in hot water.

Now Asus has said it will make additional source code archives available for download with code for the asus_acpi module, BusyBox, and several other components.

This will bring Asus into compliance with the GPL and help other other Linux distributions perform better on the Eee PC.

What happened to your previous article entitled 'Asus EEE PC "Breaks GPL" claim'? Has that now been withdrawn?

Re: Lawrence wants to rewrite history

So, I guess we should just scrap any historical articles that were correct at the time but now proven to be false....good idea....NOT!

the original article was right

Lawrence what are you talking about. The original article talked about claims of breach of GPL license. And that must have been correct, as Asus has acted on the issue and now is releasing the missing pieces.

btw... the original story is here
