GIANT TAIWANESE firm Acer is set to introduce wireless notebook PCs this summer which will support Chinese encryption standards because Intel Centrino products face a ban in the country.

According to the Economic News, a Taiwanese daily, Acer will use two local wireless module producers to be able to continue selling its notebooks on the mainland. And the same paper reports that Acer is cooperating with a Chinese-certified wireless firm in Xian.

Acer, the paper said, is the eighth biggest supplier of notebooks to mainland China. Other manufacturers, including multinational combines HP, Dell and IBM are also likely to adopt the standards in order to be able to continue selling their wares.

There is one big problem here that the Economic News doesn't mention. That is that Intel supplies a heap of co-marketing bunce to customers that brand its Centrino notebooks. µ
