Asia-Pacific's online population booms

Asia online

THE ASIA-PACIFIC Internet audience is seeing massive growth according to market research outfit Comcast.

The report, 'The State of Global Internet with a Focus on Asia' reckoned that India was seeing the biggest online growth in the region, with some 27 per cent more Indians hooking up to the interwibble in 2007. This purportedly brings India’s online population to some 28 million users (approximately the population of a small Indian town).

China also did its bit to bolster Asia-Pacific’s online growth, with Comcast calculating that the middle kingdom now boasts 14 per cent more users than last year, bringing it to a grand total of 102 million users.

Hmmm… we reckon Comcast may be using some dodgy maths here, as its figure is about 100 million off from reports a couple of months ago that the Chinese had outnumbered American web surfers with 220 million people logging on from behind the Bamboo Curtain. Oh well, 100 million here, 100 million there, who’s really counting, eh?

If we persevere with Comcast’s numbers (taking them with an extra large truck-full of salt), the report notes that the whole Asia-Pacific region grew by some 14 per cent to 319 million visitors in April 2008, counting users over the age of 15.

Taiwan, Malaysia and New Zealand all managed to show a growth of 12 per cent each, although it is unclear whether, for New Zealand, Comcast included sheep in the survey. Japan and Singapore, who are finding it extremely difficult to cram any more computers into their limited amounts of remaining free space only posted small gains of three and four per cent respectively.

Comcast reckoned that while Google and Yahoo together snatched the biggest piece of the search engine pie, most other top 10 search engines in Asia-Pacific were local outfits, with China's Baidu.com and Korea's Naver.com being singled out for special mention.

The report also noted that while Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg may well be getting friendly with most of the rest of the world, Asians actually prefer Friendster.com when it comes to social not-working.

Countries counting the most Internet addicts (those who spend inordinately large chunks of their lives online) included Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia. µ

India is made of Riff valleys, Each 10 miles wide wandering 800 miles inland from coast. Its Long March & density is so great, market is obvious for Cell Phone. Cells Phones being invisible Crime Central dosn't make it easier, yet market is in place.

China too, is long wide industrial area, about 200 miles by 800 miles of density. impossible to control, National price control lays floor even for all whom are invited in. Still anywhere, its that there are theatres, yet NO audiance, So selling entertainment is something Peoples seek comfort of from Home.

Its Fine line between its worth effort & just forget about it. Unforetunately, Computers are still in Too Much for too little, for common Man.
