During the antitrust lawsuit, not everyone in our industry raced to support us - Steve 'Understatement' Ballmer
It seems that AMD has something against that statement, since next-generation line of products will feature pretty much all that is possible to support at the moment.
R700-generation of products will come with a packed backplate: DVI-I connector and HDMI adapter from R600 series will continue to exist, but second DVI connector will be sacrificed for DisplayPort connector and legacy TV-out one.
It is still way too early to tell how will the final product look like (R700 GPU is around 100 or so days from tape-out), but it seems to us that complete line-up, from top to bottom will spot support for both HDMI and DisplayPort. At least we can count that AMD will deliver good news in the future, when forecast for today is far from being sunny. For the end, we can state that no, we are not writing about the card that ATI is using to demonstrate Displayport at upcoming VESA DisplayPort plugfest. That honour goes to one mainstream chip that is set to debut this fall. µ
