Circuit City wants more Compaq AMD Athlons

Not allowed to talk about inventory

IT'S CLEAR FROM A mass observation poll of staff at Circuit City that Compaq is not selling enough Athlon-based machines into the store.

That emerges from a document seen by the INQUIRER canvassing the megastore's staff on how they see Compaq.

Although it's evident from the replies that Circuit City staffers are not supposed to talk about inventory (stock), some seem happy enough to do so, according to the report.

At Sacramento, for example, one staffer said the following: "Compaq should make more systems with Athlon XPs inside them".

That comment was echoed by an employee at its East Tauton branch who told the mass observers: "Customers are wondering about AMD processors". Stock comes in too slow, that person said.

And at Rego Park, one individual asked if more Compaq computers will come with an AMD processor, while someone at the Concord branch said he would like to see more Compaq laptops with AMD chips inside.

Said someone at Burlington's Circuit City: "Customers are looking for AMD processors and want to stay away from Celerons".

The Phoenix store was reported by the mass Compaq observer as saying: "This store prefers AMD processors. They are very vocal about this."

Circuit City has several "express" stores which just carry PDAs and the like - several stores complained, once more, about the Ipaq drought.

They are obviously trouble makers in Birmingham. That store was carrying a 5410 deskop attached to an NEC monitor. The Compaq watcher asked that it be replaced with a monitor from his company, but was told that was out.

"Circuit City planagramed it this way," he was told. Fantastic work, planagram. We must try use it more, here at the INQ. ยต
