Japanese trade association targets million music file swappers

Now that's what's called a mass mailing

A REPORT YESTERDAY said that the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has sent out over 600,000 letters warning people about sharing music and software over the Interweb.

It started sending out letters in early March, and will complete its efforts by the end of May. The Post Office in Japan must be rubbing its hands in glee.

The American counterpart, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) renewed its own efforts today, but this is as a mustard seed compared to the Japanese cannon ball, reported on nikkei.net.

The wire reported that the RIAJ will send out a million letters warning of infringement by the end of May.

And the RIAJ may well follow that up with legal action, nikkei.net reports, here (sub required). µ
