SOFTWARE GIANT Microsoft has admitted that its site was defaced on July 6, by a hacker who goes by the handle of Apocalypse.

According to information available at the web defacement archive, Zone-H.org Mr Apocalypse managed to upload a picture bearing the legend "Free Rafa - hack is not a crime". Rafa is a Venezuelan alleged hacker Rafael Nunez-Aponte who was arrested three months ago in Florida.

Coppers think Nunez-Aponte is a member of the "World of Hell" hacking team which has been targeting US institutions and the US government ever since he was arrested.

Microsoft's UK site is running Internet Information Server 5.0 on Windows 2000, but it is not clear how the hacker got past Volish security guards. ยต
