Intel updates G965 drivers

Beta, for XP, SM2.x for now
Tuesday, 19 June 2007, 18:54
INTEL HAS PUT out a beta driver for the G965 chip which enables T&L under windows. The problems with the chip are legendary and numerous, but things are looking up at last.

The update works with 9 games, and is not recommended for others at this time. If you are gaming on a G965, when you chew through the straps holding you down, I would recommend that you try this driver out. It has been shown that Haldol does not affect gaming performance so you should be OK.

In summary, the beta was out about when Intel said it would be, and that is a good thing. The fact that the replacement for the G965, the G35, was launched before the drivers were ever functional, well that is not a good thing.

Intel is pricing the G35 below the G965 so the transition will be pretty rapid, by the time the real drivers come out, the G965 will almost be no more. With luck however, the updates to the G965 will carry over to the G35 and all will be well.

We will know by the end of August when production SM3.0 drivers for XP and Vista are out. Now if only they would get rid of the damn DRM infection support, we would be really happy. ยต
