IOMEGA, recently acquired by EMC, announced its Ego dead-cow-clad portable hard drive, the new luxury leather "must have" gadget for today’s business executives, closet alcoholics, fetishists and non-vegans alike.
The drive rocks up in a 250GB size, bound in the tanned hide of deceased bovine, under the name Iomega eGo Drive. They believe it will introduce a whole new way for tech enthusiasts and the in-fashion crowd to express themselves.
Beneath the skin of inanimate ruminant still beats the living heart of USB-powered portable 2.5-inch hard drive. Simple to operate, requiring no power supply to drive the drive. It’s equipped with DropGuard technology, protecting the eGo Drive from accidental damage caused by drops of up to 129 cms [drop it from 130 and you've had yer lot though - sub ed].
From the company’s new owners, is a license for EMC Retrospect HD software for automatic, scheduled, or on-demand backups. The drives capacity according to the blurb is capable of holding up to 1,000,000 photos, over 4,625 hours of music or 375 hours of video.
"Around the world the Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive has been recognized for its beautiful industrial design, and this leather-bound edition brings a new aesthetic of luxury and opulence to the necessity of storing and protecting your digital life," said Peter Wharton, vice president marketing International, Iomega Corporation.
The Iomega eGo leather portable hard drive is compatible with the likes of Mac OS X 10.1 or higher, Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. Although EMC Retrospect HD backup software is only available for a PC download.
The Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive, USB 2.0, 250GB Brown Genuine Leather is now available worldwide for £99.99 (VAT included) from online retailers, VARs, resellers and select retailers, as well as at www.iomega.com.
