Montevina will have 25W CPUs

IDF Fall 007 Mobility keynote highlight (singular)

THE MOBILITY KEYNOTE was a bit of a yawner, nothing really new was introduced. The thunder was stolen the day before, and what came this time was a rehash of the older stuff.

The one new data point was around Montevina, the next next-gen mobile platform. The news is there is now a 25W power band, down from the 35W of Merom. This gets things back to where they were in the Dothan and Yonah days. Montevina will also get the mobo down to about 60 per cent of the size of previous gens, and new packaging will allow for it to be about 25 per cent thinner.

Echo Peak, the Wi-Fi + WiMax card will be in there and a half size mini-card, a shock to no one, but they showed it of physically, so they are close. Silverthorne was touted once again, but nothing new was disclosed. Other than that, everything was a rehash. Faster, smaller, more powerful and more efficient, allegedly. Nothing exciting, just evolutionary. µ
