Intel Core Duo wipes floor with eighth generation CPU

THE TITLE of yesterday's review should have been Pioneer Blu-Ray writer reviewed rather than HD-DVD. These things happen.

Digit-life reviews the Core2 Duo processors in the form of the E6400 and the E6700. The latter is a production line Core2 Duo, not an engineering sample. The processors are compared to the FX62, the FX60 and the XE 965; the results never left any doubts. Rarely, if ever, in the history of Intel architecture has the new guard wipe out so evidently the old one. AMD should be ready or they will be in big trouble.

Bytesector tests the HP-S5053 50-inch Plasma screen. The black stallion of all plasmas as BS calls it has a native resolution of 1366x768 and a 10K:1 contrast ratio, more than your entry level LCD monitor. It sports HDMI and DVI ports and while it might seems heavy and cumbersome, just bear in mind that it offers a huge viewable surface at a very competitive price.

PC Inpact, a French website, compares the Gigabyte Poseidon and the Coolermaster Mystique 631 casing. Those two are amongst the best value for money under the 100 Euros market. The Mystique is not only lighter but is made up of Aluminium as well and while both have twin 120mm fans, you can expect the Mystique to be better at heat dissipation. But the Mystique has a few flaws as well as you will find in the review.

A1electronics.net reviews the Spire PininFarina PALU/S Silver Desktop Mid-tower Computer case. This model is designed by an Italian designer - hence the name. It features a futuristic bland front with a door which hides the drive bays. A very well made product with a lot of attention to details that should be emulated elsewhere in the enclosure world.

Redesigned Matbe.com tests two MSI MP3 hard disk players. The Mega Player 536 and the 540 differ mainly when it comes to capacity and the 536 has a SD slot. While they compete with the iPod, they have a number of additional functions like FM radio, video play back, USB OTC as well as Line in. The design and the finish though is not as good as other models like the Archos X100.

Viaarena shows us how to use a UMPC in an article entitled a day in the life of a UMPC owner. For once, I see how a UMPC actually works. Since it is done by Viaarena, you can expect that the UMPC is VIA-based. In fact it is a C7-M ULV processor with a maximum power drawn of 7.5w that is used. The reviewer tries to push the concept forward and even uses the Loo argument to convince us. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
