AMD lets slip Live! software suite

Optional DRM
Wed Oct 11 2006, 11:57
TEN MONTHS AFTER the paper introduction of AMD's Live! concept, the company has finally released products onto the market.

The AMD Live! software suite includes Live! Communicator, "powered by SightSpeed", which offers internet voice and video communication, Live! Games "powered by WildTangent" for downloading games and Live! Kid Rocket web-browser that will help protect kids from the naughty Internet.

While Intel entered the DRM-world with its trousers down and stuck it in hardware, AMD took the opposite approach and launched software which fits onto any AMD processor-equipped computer. Intel has different versions of its hardware in the wild, while its software (LXIV Media Server) is getting close to completion.

Essentially, if you want AMD Live! in your living room instead of Intel's LXIV, you can do that from today onwards.

AMD Live! will be bundled on AMD-powered desktop with all of the apps preinstalled in their payware versions. Trial versions are available on the L'INQ below. µ
