Code theft pushes back Half Life launch to April

It's a rewrite
Tue Oct 07 2003, 16:02
THE THEFT of Half Life 2's code last week means that the launch has now been put back to April next year, according to a report in Les Echos.

The French language newspaper quotes a Vivendi official as saying that the leak of the code, which happened last Thursday, means that the game will be delayed by "at least" four months.

The software firm, Valve, will rewrite portions of the code to give it the "newness" the widely anticipated game will need.

The news is bad for ATI, which negotiated a contract recently to bundle a prequel of Half Life 2 with its newly launched Radeon cards.

You can find Les Echos, here, but you'll have to pay €1.50 to read it, and other of today's articles on the site. µ
