DFI has fast and small boards

CeBIT 2008 X48 to ECX

DFI HAD THE usual goodies on display, high end boards, and one low low end one. X48, 790i and i945GM do not a normal combo make.

DFI Lanparty X48-T3R

Here you see the Lanparty X48-T3R notable for two things. The first is 8 phase power, coupled with DFI's legendary overclocking abilities, should be a board to watch if you are into speed. The other thing is the cooler, done with Thermalright. Note the flame cutouts and intricate design, it looks really nice.

Next up is the Nvidia based version of the board. It has a C73 northbridge and MCP55 southbridge, coupled with 8 phase power and thermalright cooling. It also has Bernstein 8 channel audio, so it should sound pretty darn good too. Now if only NV could get the chipset out.....

DFI ECX board

The last one is an industrial PC design in a form factor I had never heard of until now, ECX. It is an i945GM based board that takes a Celeron CPU of your choice, and it is really small. The size is a bit of a misnomer, there is a riser card for memory and options, but even with that, you have to admit it is really tiny. Don't look for OC records from this one though. ยต

Everyone wants to know...

Do they have anything to show for P45?

Do they have a reasonable time frame for shipping a P45 board, or will they be months later like they have been with (some) past chipsets?

I'm curious how the LP and INF look, and if they're worth waiting for against the competition. I hope they come up with something before Intel gets their cheap quad act together and the R700 generation is released. Yeah, that's Mid-late Q2 and one would think, but you never know with DFI.

If you get a chance Charlie, do us all a favor and ask a rep. Thankee!

One more thing

Gee, Charlie, if you had included your phone number as well, our harassment possibilities would have been complete!

Oh, and if you could have rotated that first picture 90 degrees CCW it would have saved me a crook in my neck.

ECX

ECX has been around for a few years now, and the form factor itself(105mm x 146mm) has been used for even longer. Intel is actually behind the ECX name. See here, http://www.intel.com/design/embedded/technologies/ecx/index.htm
