UK tabloid, "The Sun" advertises on Wall Street Journal

What gives?

IT'S LIKE chalk and cheese, it's like fire and water, it's like intelligence versus stupidity, like mobile phones versus land lines, like prince versus pauper, it's like [That's enough likes, Ed.]

Much to the surprise of your resident Guttersnipe, when he logged into his subscription to the Wall Street Journal today, he saw the ever so familiar Current Bun (The Sun) as the top banner on the site.

Now why would people who read the WSJ want to read the Current Bun? And what is this "we break news first claim" in the advert below?

Our American readers would surely be scandalised if they turned to the the pages of The Sun UK by the plethora of gossip and celebrity news up there, rather than the august words offered to the world+dog by a seriously serious newspaper of record.

The world+dog wants to know. How much did News International pay the Journal for this banner. Or is it a contra deal? Will we see a Wall Street Journal ad appear on these somewhat interesting pages? µ
