Linus Torvalds comments on Transmeta web site hoo-ha

Code Morphing Software, should it be open?
Mon Jan 05 2004, 12:16
A FILING ON tech-head site Real World Technologies said that it's a crying shame that the code morphing software (CMS) that Transmeta uses in its Crusoe chips isn't open for all to see.

The filing includes a report on what technology is used, but the hoo-ha has drawn a response from Linus Torvalds himself.

The original anonymous filing was placed on RWT on the 31st of December, here.

Torvalds himself replies to the thread in a filing here, pointing out that he doesn't speak for Transmeta in any way.

He said that the lack of documentation for the CMS isn't such a big deal anyway. Public documentation is a big job, he says. And there's no big deal about writing native mode code, which he adds is "pretty horrid to write for". ยต
