Report claims AMD Phenoms are further delayed

AMD refuses to comment
Mon Dec 24 2007, 10:37

TAIWANESE WIRE Digitimes reports AMD partners claiming high binned versions of its Phenom quad cores will now be pushed back into the second quarter of 2008.

There’s no confirmation of this from AMD, but Digitimes speculates that the real question is the future of the firm’s much vaunted “triple cores”.

The wire claims that AMD is still having difficulties sorting the translation lookaside buffer bug. µ

Meaningless

I cannot imagine a niche for triple core CPUs. Punters either buy the lowest priced CPUs (dual core) or high end CPUs (four cores) and I don't see anything inbetween.

In short, it's a dumb, desperate attempt to sell something 'different' as Apple likes to put it.

Does anyone care?

Who cares, anyways? The ones that have shipped thus far are *not selling*. The 95/9500's have been, are, and will probably be easily available by various vendors. A quick review of customer comments and ratings for the Phenom clearly shows that only a handful have been sold to date. Nobody wants them. The supposedly 'obsolete' 60/6400 Black Editions are selling out the door faster than this new line.
These shouldn't even be selling for more than two bills at retail. But they are. And nobody's buying.

Delay? Does anyone in the buyer's market even care?
(No reflection on INQ - Thank you for the article!)

Plegomes

When are you going to get it though your skulls that this one year old pile of spin and hype is an irrevocable failure of monumental proportions? It is a bad design on a bad process. There is nothing they can do to make it competitive on any level. Wrector and his minions with their grandiose pipe dreams screwed the pooch over a year ago when they embarked on this “elegant” design. Now they up the creek, shoveling it against the tide.

Doesn’t anybody get it yet?

It’s a DOG!

45nm

Than this would mean that the real Phenom release is only 1 quarter before the 45nm parts come out.

(there is no reason the bug would delay 45nm since they need new 45nm revisions anyway)

ITS' JUTE TO SELL XP & RUIN CHRISTMAS!!!

WHY NO ULTIMATE MAINBOARDS, Pundits Beg ULTIE_TOM to Answer. Answer is simple, simplette.

Microsoft dosn't want people changing to ULTIMATE, it's HARDWARE Transition, So New Hardware Comes When 7 is Good & Ready.

When I hit & I get 7. And Haughte, next after next before next will be 2011 delemia.

FOR LOVE OF GOD DON'T BUY XP ANYMORE, IT CRASHES, ITS THAT SIMPLETOMS. GO ULTIMATE 64 FOR BEST YOU CAN PURCHASE AT SAME COST TODAY.

Don't Care about PHENOM, its DOINK. When this stuff works XP will finally be seen as weakie single 16 bit core it is & Crasher, bad audio stability & poor dvd all go along. GO ULTIMATE 64, See Quality Difference from first. DON'T USE XP SOFTWARE ANYMORE, ITS' NON-ULTIE.

When Seven ready they will Build It, little Bird Told ME.

So its Gonna Take awhile. yet two 16 bit core commands allow much more core potenial in depth of l1 cache reach & instantness of that reach. If its good, its xp, if its Better its ULTIMATE, IF ITS' BEST ITS SEVEN.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
