Intel's 65 nano Jonah jinxed?

Whale strike us pink

JAPANESE WEB SITE PC Watch is claiming that Intel is likely to have problems moving its production process from 90 nanometres to 65 nanometres because of heat dissipation concerns.

Jonah is the codename for the successor to Intel's "Dothan" Pentium M process, which is expected to make it to manufacturing during the first quarter of this year.

However, the news is not that surprising. Intel, together with IBM Microelectronics, have good process technology and while the move from 130 nanometres to 90 nanometres wasn't all roses, roses, Chipzilla has managed it.

As the size of the lines used in the brains of computers shrinks, the process becomes ever more difficult, but Intel reckons that it can lick not only 65 nanometres but ultimately 45 nanometres too.

Future process roadmaps which include 45 nano chips can be found here. µ
