LINUX computers are to be taken off the shelves at WalMart because the supermarket giant claims that customers don't want them.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman Melissa O'Brien told AP that punters wanted Windows more and were not interested in the fact the Linux machines were cheaper.
Wal-Mart has been testing demand for Linux with an open-source operating system "Green gPC," made by Everex. However while they sold OK from the outfit's e-commerce site, shop customers were apparently avoiding them like herpes.
However this might seem strange to most people as Wal-Mart actually sold out the in-store gPC inventory and then decided not to restock. ยต

Wal-mart is not restocking most likely due to Micro$oft pressure. Afterall this is NOT a windows PC.
I don't believe them. I believe it has something to do with pressure put upon them by other 3rd parties.

We couldn't find them in the stores in my area from day one and we were going to pick up 3 of them. Who cares about the linux version they installed. I was going to rework them and install a full linux on them. That's an inexpensive machine.

We looked on the web and they were sold out from the beginning. Many people that I know were interested in them. We just couldn't get our hands on them.

Either Walmart wasn't getting the margin, or they were unable to maintain their deal with Everex, or some third party was influencing Walmart's decision to drop them.

I understand they are still selling online but since they were never in the stores means very little to me.
I guess the Vole has enough money to pay Walmart what they were making off of Linux. Go go European Commission!
Please, any of you, do get back to me if you have any evidence to support your assertions that Microsoft paid Walmart to discontinue the product...
