ebaY will continue live pets ban

Angry letters force its hands
Thu Dec 22 2005, 08:13
A PLAN by the online auctioneer eBay to axe its ban on the sale of pets on the site has been canned.

Apparently the auctioneer had received more than 2000 letters from people protesting about an eBay plan to lift its age old ban.

EbaY wanted to lift the ban to allow a separate classifieds category that would feature free ads from animal shelters and paid ads from breeders.

A spokesebaY said that the letter writers were worried the listings would encourage puppy mills, where dogs are bred in unsanitary conditions, and that it would be difficult to tell between legit animal shelters and unsavoury sources.

EBay will continue to flog fish and snails, apparently their feelings are not as important as little puppywonikins and no one seemed to care about kitten mills.
