GeForce 8600 overclocked to 1GHz

Hardware Roundup Plus, picking your way through LCD tech
Tuesday, 3 April 2007, 13:28
SHAMINO FROM VR-ZONE kept a load of Taiwanese companies awake and caused the wrath of Graphzilla to rain down, when he ran the story about overclocking the as yet unreleased G84-400 GPU up to 1GHz clock for the core.

Shamino was pleasantly surprised and praised the 80nm process, but we already saw 1GHz overclock done with a 90nm one (Radeon X1800). Head over to VR-Zone and read all about this feat.

If you are asking yourself what is the right type of LCD tech for you, PureOverclock ran a story about LCD matrices and the differences between them - TN Film, MVA, PVA and IPS got dissected.

David Kanter from Real World Technologies recently visited ISSCC 2007 in San Francisco and wrote two articles: ISSCC 2007 overview and Intel's Teraflops Design project. An interesting techie read.

Continuing the tech paper reading day, PC Perspective posted an article about upcoming products from Intel - Penryn and Nehalem. Techgage followed suit with its take on the info.

TechGage tested Thecus' N2100 NAS (Networl-Attached-Storage), an affordable hard drive stacking case that can serve as a music or photo sharing hub. FTP functionality is there as well. If you think that you need to sell a kidney or two to buy it, think again. Or better, head on over and read the review.

Virtual-Hideout continued to cover Abit's return to fame, with a review of an nForce 650i based motherboard. We like non-reference designs, especially since the whole "Designed by Nvidia" programme is nothing but marketing talk.

Continuing with non-reference designed motherboards, IT-Review.Net tested GigaByte's N680SLI-DQ6 and found out that GigaByte pulled the right move with this custom design.

We conclude the motherboard review part with a reference one - IT-Review.Net tested EVGA's 680i LT baby.

Today's power supplies are growing muscles, but some limitations are also due to happen, like the (sadly) approaching end of modular cabling. Chris from AMDZone posted a review of Tagan's TG1100-U96, a 1100W power supply that should address the hunger of all new and upcoming components.

Rick Caporali from HardwareLogic tested Hiper's take on the keyboard world. Guys'n'gals from Hiper delivered a stylish laptop-looking aluminium keyboard, so if you're into small and compact keyboards, give these two a good look.

LegitReviews tested Plantronics Audio 910 Bluetooth headset intended for telephone conversations over the internet, with some additional Skype-related features. All in all, a neat device.

Bootdaily brought an article about the ramifications of the arrival of Microsoft Live service to Windows operating system.

And as a final L'Inq of today's Hardware Roundup, we invite you to read a review of one peripheral which should prove quite useful in the coming months - Thomas from DVhardware tested Thermaltake's notebook cooler.
