There was an immeasurable distance between the quick and the dead: they did not seem to belong to the same species; and it was strange to think that but a little while before they had spoken and moved and eaten and laughed - W. Somerset Maugham
AMD said the FX-57 is already available at a number of outlets across the world, while a number of firms have already committed to put the chip into machines they'll build.
So why buy an FX-57 rather than buy one of its dual core X2 processors, if you can find them? According to Bob Brewer, a VP of the firm's desktop business: "AMD recognises that today's games are single threaded. Users who crave the absolute best performance on 3D games and extreme applications can experience realistic physics and lighting, as well as gripping artificial intelligence and sound, with the single core [chip]."
We suppose anything that gets a grasp on AI is a good thing.
AMD did not say how much the FX-57 weighs. But it costs $30 more than the dual core 4800+. Pricing details are on AMD's site, here.
A barrel of oil costs $60. Corn costs $2.5275 a bushel. Aluminium costs about $1,720 a ton. µ
