Web goes for Porn 2.0

Social networking + Rails = adult fun
Monday, 20 August 2007, 10:58
THERE'S A GOOD BIT of buzz on the web this morning about new adult startup Zivity, which looks like it's aim is to bring Web 2.0 to porn.

According to reports, it seems that Zivity is a social network - think Facebook and MySpace - which brings together people who are fans of, well, hot girls in the nip.

The pitch, however, is definitely more 'indie connoisseur' that 'gimp in mac'. The site has been written in Ruby on Rails - the hottest web development tool at the moment - and will bring fancy Flickr-esque Flash slideshows and user interaction to the table. Users can vote for their favourite models and get them extra dosh - if Digg had been conceived by Larry Flynt, this would probably be it.

Almost all porn sites, with the exception of the few YouTube clones floating around, are resolutely Web 1.0 in their old-school image galleries and navigation systems. Can Zivity be the Facebook of porn? Can the social networking aspect possibly take Zivity closer to the mainstream?

Rumour has it that investors in Silicon Valley are lining up to get a piece of the action - after all, adult content is one of the web's most lucrative money-spinning machines. Who would want to bet against hot girls with hot interface design and a side helping of web tools? Not us, for sure. ยต
