The latest email, just received this afternoon (see today's letter page), is from Romania, and a reader saying that Greece has it lucky compared to his country. You'll remember a Greek reader told us earlier this week broadband access in the source of western civilisation costs nearly 900 times that in Scandinavia.
But now market research firm Point Topic has released its statistics for the world DSL market for the first quarter of this year.
The firm's statistics show the top 10 DSL countries by number of lines compared to the last quarter of 2002.
Japan is top of the list, followed by the US, South Korea, Germany, China, Taiwan, France, Canada, Italy and Spain.
But the growth shows Sinhapura in the lead at nearly 60%, Hong King, Portugal, the UK, Switzerland, Israel, China, France, Italy and Peru.
As for DSL penetration per 100 population, South Korea is number one, followed by Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Belgium, Denmark, Canada, Finland and Singapore.
