Sun opens Fortress' sauce

Fortran replacement
Mon Jan 15 2007, 09:08
SUN HAS decided to Open Sauce its Fortran replacement dubbed Fortress.

The outfit has released a Open Sauce prototype Fortress "interpreter", a programming tool to execute Fortress programs line by line.

Fortress grew out of a Defence Department-funded supercomputing project, and is designed for the high-performance computing market.

However as more desktops go for multi-core environments it is possible that Fortress could be used to take advantage of the increased performance, Allen thinks.
