CABLE OUTFIT NTL is to work with filesharing company BitTorrent to let its punters buy movies and music video downloads.

The system, which includes technology from CacheLogic, will be trialed next month. A spokesNTL said the trial would be small, involving less than 100 homes, but it will get lots of PR attention.

Apparently NTL hopes to limit the impact of the bandwidth draining BitTorrent by storing the most frequently downloaded files within the NTL network, speeding up downloads and reducing expensive interconnect charges.

The big idea is that by controlling the filesharing better, it will be possible to make sure that it does not cripple the network.
