INQUIRER demands Intel Beancountergate keyring

Pictures of FDIV and Dessicated Pentium Pro

NOW THAT WE'VE ESTABLISHED that the erratum in the 3GHz/800MHz Canterwood combo is a beancounter, rather than an engineer's problem, we'd like our keyring as Intel's way of apology.

Intel-keyrings-of-our-timeAnd by way of illustration we are today publishing this picture to show previous Chipzillaware that's resulted from engineering rather than beancountering errors.

The first at the top of the picture is Intel's Pentium with FDIV error, a classic keyring of our time, which followed a massive recall of the chip causing Andy Grove to go off and write a little tome called Only the Paranoid Survive, where he rather deftly pointed out that every company has got inflexion points, and FDIV was one for Intella.

Below is a much rarer Intel item - the Pentium Pro keyring. Unfortunately sticking two bits of semiconductor on one package produced its own problems which were wittily called "dessication" by SMP vendors of the time.

Now all we need is a third keyring with a picture of Andy Bryant on it, and our lives will be complete! µ
