The mobile-based viewing software called 'Slingplayer Mobile', will let user's watch their TV feed, fed by their Slingbox, on any Symbian phone that supports 3G or Wifi.
The 'Slingplayer Mobile for Symbian OS', to quote its full name, will launch at the end of the year in Europe
and Asia, with a United States launch occurring soon thereafter.
Sling Media has also previously stated that it will produce a similar suite of software for Palm based devices.
In related news, and coming shortly after the press launch from Sling Media, Sony Ericsson announced details of new viewing software for the Sony Ericsson P990i that uses Sony's rival (and more expensive) service 'Locationfree'.
The announcement has been anticipated for some time. Previously, only the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) or a proprietary viewing console could use the Locationfree set-top-box's AV feed.
The software will come bundled on the included memory stick with the P990i, or can be downloaded via the Sony support site here when it finally sees the light of day.
Interestingly, the Symbian OS powers the P990i, giving you the option of either the Slingbox or Locationfree products, for all your place-shifting requirements.
Just don't come crying to the INQ if you rack up a fortune watching TV on your new Symbian 3G phone. ยต
