SOURCES CLAIM Intel is shortly to release its Xscale Bulverde chip, aimed at handhelds and at mobile phones.

It could be launched as early as next week, according to sources.

The Bulverde family is part of the Personal Internet Client Architecture (PICA), and will also probably include Wireless Speedstep, aimed at reducing power consumption.

Intel claimed at a conference last year that such technology will allow faster transmission of pictures and videos on PDAs and on mobile phones.

There's likely to be a jump in processor frequencies for Bulverde, although this doesn't matter quite as much to Intel as it used to. ยต
