Volish iPod plan draws mirth from Apple fans

Free WMA for iTunes replacements

MICROSOFT IS hoping to convert iPod users by replacing iTunes format music for its own super soaraway format for free.

The software giant is about to launch its own 'iPod killer' around Crimbo with its own Volish formats. Under the cunning plan, Vole will scan iTunes for music that you have already bought from Apple and add them to your Microsoft account.

Vole will have to pay the Music industry millions to keep its lawyers off their backs but they feel that in the long term it will be worth it.

However, the move is being pooh-poohed at the Mac online fanzine MacDailyNews where it claims that it smacks of desperation from the software giant.

"Microsoft feels the need to "own" every market it sees is beyond us, but it will prove to be their downfall," the magazine says.

Of course Apple has a near monopoly of the iPod market, but if Steve says it is a good monopoly it must be.
