Is an Itanium Madison erratum delaying HP 5670 shipments?

Or is Madison just plain late?
Tuesday, 14 October 2003, 16:55
EARLIER THIS YEAR we reported that Intel had discovered an erratum on Itaniums which eventually caused the chip giant to offer replacements on its processors, including McKinleys, if need be.

Now we're puzzled, because according to a system integrator, HP won't start shipping its 5670 Itanium servers until the end of this month, because it's waiting for a fix from Intel, which is due from the chip fabs on the 21st of October.

We're puzzled because the 5670, as you can see from this HP page here, incorporates 1.3GHz and 1.5GHz Madison chips.

So if there is an erratum, it's one for the Madison microprocessors, which were formally announced on the 30th of June, as you can read here.

The earlier erratum, details of which you can find in the links below, was all done and dusted back in June.

So either there's a new erratum for the Madison, or else the microprocessor is four months late.

We've contacted Intel for clarification, and we'll bring that just as soon as we find out. ยต
