Jetway clarifies dual Windows XP licence

Ts&Cs support it, hardware firm says
Friday, 23 January 2004, 09:12
WE REPORTED last week that Jetway has released a motherboard which will let two users work simultaneously on one machine.

We had a question about how this might affect licences for Microsoft Windows operating systems, and now it seems we have the answer from Jetway.

The firm says that technically several users can work with only one installed Microsoft Windows or Office at the same time.

It claims that under Windows XP single user mode you are allowed to start Windows and switch from one user to another, seemingly at the same time.

The Magictwin software Jetway uses works the same way, and accelerates the switching process so that each user believes he has his own PC.

This may be true. But if Jetway's idea pays off, and lots of people start using these dual motherboards, we'd expect something to happen.

That would be Microsoft changing its terms and conditions... ยต
