BMW Sauber takes a dig at Williams' supercomputer

Mine's better than yours

IN A bog on the BMW press site, the BMW Sauber F1 team takes a pot shot at its rival, AT&T Williams, for having a much slower supercomputer.

The BMW site boasts that the team's own computer - Albert2 - has "no reason to worry. A supercomputer was recently unveiled in England, but it is much slower than me. It can only process eight teraflops."

That supercomputer belongs to the AT&T Williams team and was supplied by Lenovo. Albert2 can, of course, claim a computing speed of almost 12.3 teraflops.

The INQ has previously revealed that Albert 2 is built using 512 Intel Xeon 5160 processors. But don't try this at home folks because the monster weighs 21 tonnes and measures ten metres in length. And it runs pretty hot too.

The INQ isn't so sure about the phrase BMW uses about keeping "an eye on what the team's rivals' computers are up to?" Surely avoiding any implication of spying would be wise in the current atmosphere? ยต
