'Town' website calls for banning of Santa

Illegal immigrant
Thursday, 21 December 2006, 15:46
A PENNSYLVANIA town has apparently banned Santa from their town this Christmas because he is an illegal immigrant who does not pass through the Land of the Free's glorious immigration checks each year.

Someone in Hazleton has set up a Web site, here, with the aim of keeping Father Christmas out of town because he represents the illegal immigration which the town council believes increases crime and burdens local services.

The site appears to have been made by the Mayor's office and hacks are invited to give the Mayor a bell to ask about it. It also quotes Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta as saying that "Santa is a dangerous idea whose reign must be put to an end."

And says that it has been made by a coalition of elected officials and concerned citizens have come together to act against "the nation's most prominent undocumented worker."

In fact it is a hoax, but follows a move by the council to prevent businesses and landlords to deter them from hiring or renting rooms to illegal immigrants. Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, who instigated the Illegal Immigration Relief Act Ordinance, said neither he nor the City of Hazleton are involved with the Web site. He has referred it to the police because the site invites online donations.

Besides Santa qualifies as a tourist and the North Pole was never mentioned as being one of the nations on the Axis of Evil.
