Graphics accelerators push surreal fronts

Consumer Electronics Show Wil bewitched, bothered, bewildered

WE ALWAYS love finding new applications for the expensive graphics accelerators that gamers love and graphics vendors paper-launch, and the INQ just found what we think is one of the most bizarre, here at Internext.

By now, you should all be aware of this writer's particular penchant for Jenna Jameson, a porn starlet that I wrote previously of here. Well, gamers are now able to have 'personalized real-time 3D interactive virtual sex!' (their words, not ours) with the lovely Miss Jameson, thanks to the chaps at XStream3D.

Utilising Gameboxxx virtual sex technology, Jenna is rendered in real-time using whatever graphics hardware you are packing in your machine. It requires a 32 MB graphics accelerator, but to run at a high resolutions, or if you want more than one character on screen at a time (!), you'll want something a little meatier. AVN Online, the adult industry Bible, claim that the game is a 'resource hog', but we spoke to Dan Shillberg, a 3D artist who has been working on the project. He said that both ATI and Nvidia have plenty of power to handle the rendering, which Dan originally did in 3DStudio Max. We won't hold our breath for benchmarks with Intel Extreme Graphics.

We'll be hooking up with the graphics hardware chaps to party later on, and we'll be sure to get their opinions on this use of their technology. Who knows, maybe we'll see a new scheme - The Way Porn is Meant To Be Played? We also wonder if the myriad of hardware benchmarking sites will pick up on it - from fumbling to finish at 104FPS?

You can check out the Jenna game for yourself at virtuallyjenna.com.
