Vole releases free Works

Just watch the advertisements
Thu Aug 02 2007, 20:23
CONSOLE FIRM Microsoft has released a free version of its Works office suite which will be supported entirely by advertising.

Works had been the ginger haired step-son at the Volehill since Openoffice and Google's suite of business software appeared as competition.

Vole plans to pre-install Works on computers and display advertisements stored in cache. That way punters, who are normally OEMs anyway will not have to fork out $40 for the software.

When a user connects to the Internet while using Works, the software will phone home to refresh the cache of ads.

Advertising-supported Microsoft Works will be in the shops in a few months.
