Wednesday, 30 April 2008, 09:05

OPEN UP A DELL OR HP laptop from this July and chances are you will find a lithium-ion battery from the Korean outfit Samsung.

According to the Korean Times, Samsung has finalised a deal to flog its batteries to what it calls 'Some US-based leading computer makers'.

Although Samsung will not officially say who its clients are, sources within the company named Dell and HP.

Samsung has a new battery it is selling for laptops and ultra mobile PCs which it claims has seven per cent more capacity, 10 per cent more in-use-time and is quicker to refresh than normal 2,600 mAh (milli ampere hour) rechargeable battery.

The company expects lithium-ion rechargeable battery demand to increase by 18 per cent over the next year with 2.85 billion cells being ordered in 2008.

Samsung is currently an 'also ran' in the industry following behind Sanyo and the incredible exploding battery maker Sony. ยต
