VIA ups the ante with a KT 400 revision

Sneak preview

JUST YESTERDAY, we plugged a new revision, revision B of the DFI's AD 77 Infinity board in our test bed and we saw a new light flickering, illumiating the future of the KT 400 chipset.

From the bare beginning, you could see that this board was much faster than the first sample we received in the last weeks of August and, we noted, a much more mature one.

The first KT400 was just a bit faster than the KT333CE hosted on many motherboards floating around, with the absurd fact that the KT400 significantly slower than the "older" KT333 chipset in 3dMark 2001 SE, one of the key tests that knocking about.

This time this was not the case, since the board delivered more than 500 marks more than revision A of the board. We knew that VIA issued a new Bios, since ours was made just 10 days ago and we believe that this is where performance boost comes from.

In this light, this board could be much more competitive with the Nforce 2 ones that we are hopefully about to see in the next weeks, but that's just not enough for VIA.

Even in this light, VIA is still working on new revision of KT 400 chipset where we assume that they will go for quiet replacement, just as they did with KT333CE - DE.

We're still waiting for our Nforce 2 piecs of the pie, to compare it with this new KT400. ยต
