Catalyst 7.8 will fix Source Engine

Fog bug set to disappear in August
Tuesday, 31 July 2007, 08:11
IN THE PAST couple of releases of Catalyst drivers owners of Radeon HD 2000 cards got quite a lot of bug fixes, but there was one major bug that plagued the gaming experience of good part of those 13 million people hooked up on Valve's Steam on-line distribution service.

The bug in question was causing fog to be rendered incorrectly in all games based on the Source Engine, the most notable ones include Half Life 2 and its variants. Therefore, the bug was rather annoying to massive amount of people.

We talked with Terry Makedon, father of the Catalyst drivers, and learned that ATI was well aware of the fog bug and it had a priority in sorting out the problem. After using a lot of magic, Mackedon's team managed to squash the bug that plagued games based on Source Engine (and there is a sizeable number of them).

We are still waiting for a fix for World of Warcraft Wireframe bug that happens to owners of 2900XT cards, though.

Drivers are expected to hit the websites around the second week of August. As we all know, ATI is not limiting distribution of its software to preferred websites. µ
