A HIGH SCHOOL music teacher from Nevada is suing computer games giant Electronic Arts over a song he composed and donated to a Las Vegas University.

Win With the Rebels a rousing fight song played by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas band at sports events, has been used by EA without the copyright holder's permission on no fewer than ten ocassions, according to the suit.

Gerald Willis, who registered the song under copyright in 1990, is asking for the maximum $150,000 restitution allowed by law for each version of the song used adding up to a cool $1.5 million.

The song can be heard in various flavours of the company's NCAA football and basketball franchises dating back to 2006. ยต

Shouldn't he get money everytime it was played on a console? So if they just average out the amount of times each game was played and multiply by games sold he should get millions more. At least that is what the MPAA would do.

Good on him

I hope he wins.
About time somebody nailed EA to the wall for piracy, after all EA has made us legitimate gamers go through because of the "threat of" piracy.
I boycott EA now.
