Google plans new News

Newsmakers will talk back
Friday, 27 October 2006, 11:15
GOOGLE PLANS to revamp its news aggregation service, according to reports based on "leaked" documents.

The Google Blogoscoped site reports that Google wants to test a version of Google News in this calendar quarter that will allow "other news sources, and organisations and individuals mentioned in news stories to debate specific points".

Despite some puzzling features relating to the way certain sites and late-to-market stories gain prominence, Google News is still probably the best broad aggregation service out there.

Many are still trying to get a slice of this market, however.

The Free Internet Press has just launched an aggregator button, for example, offering uncensored news from "trustworthy sites" updated every 10 minutes. Of course, the question of what is a trustworthy sight is one of the many things open to debate on these sites. ยต
