Toshiba to build $6.6 billion Nand factory

Plant early to avoid disapointment

DESPITE WARNINGS of falling prices Toshiba is pressing ahead with an enormous investment in a flash memory plant in northern Japan.

Reuters, via the Japanese national paper the Asahi Shimbun, has reported that the Toshiba factory will come on stream in April 2009 and produce 200,000 wafers per month.

Tosh and Samsung like to battle it out for flash dominance and the firm believes the new plant will give it the edge. µ
